Venezuela’s Supreme Court upholds arrest warrant against Argentine President Javier Milei

( Spanish) – Venezuela’s Supreme Court has given the green light to the Public Prosecutor’s Office’s request to issue arrest warrants against Argentine President Javier Milei, his sister and Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, and Security Minister Patricia Bullrich (whose last name was misspelled by the TSJ in the statement released by Foreign Minister Yvan Gil), accused by the prosecution of aggravated robbery —among other crimes— for the seizure of a plane belonging to the Venezuelan state-owned company Emtrasur.

The plane in question was seized in Argentina in 2022, during the government of Alberto Fernández, at the request of the United States Government, which considered it to be part of an investigation for possible crimes. In February of this year, during Milei’s term, the aircraft was confiscated by the US.

Argentina’s foreign ministry in a statement criticized the prosecution’s accusations and said the sending of the plane to the U.S. was a case resolved by the judiciary, not the government.
