The Israeli Army detects a drone launched against its territory from Iraq

September 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli army reported on Sunday that it had detected a drone launched from Iraq by pro-Iranian militias against the city of Beit Shan, near the border with Jordan, to which they responded by activating anti-aircraft alarms and launching interceptors, an event that has left no victims.

“Following the alerts activated in the last hour in the Jordan Valley, a drone has been detected that was launched from Iraq and crossed into the country from Syria. Several interceptors have been launched against the aircraft. The event is over, there are no casualties,” reads a statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on its social media account X.

Meanwhile, the coalition of Iranian Shiite militias, the Islamic Resistance of Iraq, has confirmed the launch of an ‘Arfed’ drone against a target in the Jordan Valley, its fifth attack against Israel during the day.

Hostilities in the region erupted after the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions launched a series of attacks against Israel on October 7, leaving nearly 1,200 people dead and more than 240 hostages. The Israeli army then launched a bloody military campaign against Gaza that has so far left more than 41,400 dead, in addition to more than 700 Palestinians killed in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The October 7 attacks, dubbed the “Al-Aqsa Flood” by Hamas and its allies, also led to the opening of a front on the border between Israel and Lebanon, with constant fighting for more than eleven months. In addition, Houthi rebels in Yemen and pro-Iranian militias in Iraq have launched missiles and drones against Israel – which has carried out bombings against territory in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen – in response to its offensive against Gaza.
