🎧 Kamala Harris and the Democratic balancing act to keep the Oval Office

Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States, and her vice presidential candidate, Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota.

First modification:

In the third stop of Road to the White House (the podcast), we review the campaign proposals and promises of Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who is characterized by a sometimes contradictory, sometimes modulated speech, and who marks a strong distance from Donald Trump’s country project in terms of economy, migration, abortion, democracy, foreign policy, among others. In this episode we focus on who could be the first female president of the United States.

Kamala Harris has emerged as a key figure in American politics, known for her liberal approach to issues such as social justice, civil rights and economic equity.

Before taking on the vice president’s role, Harris served as a senator from California, where she championed progressive policies in areas like police reform and climate change, despite criticism for sidestepping uncomfortable stances during her time as California prosecutor and district attorney in San Francisco.

Her ability to address complex issues and her pioneering role as the first African-American and Asian woman to hold the vice presidency have made her a central figure within the Democratic Party.

Kamala Harris has faced criticism throughout her political career. Some progressives have singled her out for her record as California attorney general, where she was criticized for not being aggressive enough in reforming the criminal justice system, particularly on issues like police brutality and mass incarceration.

On the conservative side, Harris has come under fire for her support of policies seen as too liberal, such as immigration reform, expanding access to health care and increasing social spending.

She has also come under fire for what some see as a lack of visibility or clear leadership at certain key moments in the Biden administration, especially on issues such as the migration crisis at the southern border. However, her defenders argue that she faces disproportionate scrutiny for being a Black woman in a position of power.

In this episode, we dive into the Democratic candidate’s main proposals, analyze her changes of opinion throughout her public life, and explain the challenges she will face if she maintains control of the Oval Office after the elections on November 5.
