Israel restricts airspace in northern Lebanon amid escalating war against Hezbollah

Israeli authorities announced on Saturday the partial closure of airspace from the coastal city of Hadera –about 80 kilometers from the border with Lebanon– to the rest of the northern territory of the country amid recent attacks against the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah and fears of possible responses in the area.

The Israeli aviation authority announced this on Saturday with a “warning to airmen.” The measure is valid for 24 hours and largely affects only recreational and agricultural flights, according to information collected by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

This will not affect military or security aircraft, nor the normal activity of Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, as commercial flights do not normally fly over the area.

The move comes at a time when Israel has confirmed the launching of new attacks against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and after an Israeli “targeted bombing” in Beirut the day before left more than thirty dead, including three children.
