The Prosecutor’s Office is asking for a thorough examination of the case against Begoña Gómez before requesting the indictment of Judge Peinado

The Provincial Court is asking Judge Peinado to file the entire case against Begoña Gómez before deciding whether to archive it

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has asked Judge Juan Carlos Peinado to provide all the documentation of the case he is keeping open against Begoña Gómez before deciding whether to request her indictment. Shortly after reporting in favour of investigating the judge for Pedro Sánchez’s complaint for prevaricating in his summons as a witness, the Public Prosecutor’s Office asks the High Court of Justice of Madrid to request a “complete” testimony of the proceedings before deciding whether the second complaint, filed by the wife of the President of the Government, is admitted or not for crimes of revealing secrets and prevarication against the judge.

Both Begoña Gómez, through her lawyer, and Pedro Sánchez, through the State Attorney’s Office, filed a complaint against Judge Peinado, who has been investigating the former for months following a complaint from the ultra-right pseudo-union Manos Limpias. In Sánchez’s case, the accusation of prevarication revolves around her summons as a witness, considering that the investigating judge forced her to make a statement in person at La Moncloa in an irregular manner. Gómez’s complaint is broader and covers the entire investigation.

The Madrid Public Prosecutor’s Office has already announced that it will accept the State Attorney’s complaint and is now asking for all the documentation in the case before giving its opinion on Gómez’s complaint. The decision on whether to accept the two is in the hands of the High Court of Justice of Madrid, before which Judge Peinado is authorized.

The judge of Court No. 41 of Plaza de Castilla, meanwhile, has continued with his investigation into Begoña Gómez, waiting for the Provincial Court of Madrid to study the appeals of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the accused herself in a few days, requesting that the case be closed. The magistrate, at the request of Manos Limpias, Vox, HazteOir and other popular accusations, is investigating whether Gómez took advantage in any way of her position as the wife of the President of the Government to promote her professional career.

For the moment, two reports from the Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard have ruled out, among other accusations, that Gómez had any influence in the rescue of Air Europa or in the public contracts awarded to Juan Carlos Barrabés’ companies. In recent weeks, the magistrate has focused his efforts on investigating whether Gómez received any kind of preferential treatment from the Complutense University in the management of his chair.

Along with Gómez, Barrabés himself and the headmaster of the centre, Joaquín Goyache, are also accused. In their statements as defendants, both have denied any type of irregularity in everything related to the case. During his interrogations, the judge has even asked about a ski instructor to find out if he was the one who introduced Barrabés to Pedro Sánchez.
