September 19 (Portaltic/EP) –
The social network X, formerly Twitter, has managed to restore its service “involuntary” and “temporary”” in Brazil after changing its network provider, a restoration that comes after access to the platform was blocked by a decision of the Supreme Court of Justice of this country.
The platform’s owner, Elon Musk, announced in mid-August the closure of the company’s subsidiary in Brazil due to “censorship orders” from Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes, who had ordered the blocking of certain accounts of the “digital militias” investigated for spreading fake news during the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro.
Just a few days later, the South American country blocked the app a few weeks ago following an order from Moraes in retaliation for not appointing a legal representative in Brazil, which motivated many of its users to try other platformslike Bluesky.
Now media like The New York Times They point out that some users in this country have been able to use the platform again after a technical change carried out by X itself, which modifies the way you direct your internet traffic.
Specifically, this has been possible because the platform has begun to use Cloudflare’s domain name system (DNS), which allows it to evade the restrictions imposed by the Brazilian government, as stated in the report. Engadget.
In this sense, X has explained in his profile Global Government Affairs that when the application was closed in this country, its infrastructure to provide service to Latin America was no longer available to its team.
In order to continue providing optimal service to its users, it decided to change network providers; which “resulted in a temporary and involuntary restoration” of the platform for Brazilian users.
In this regard, X has indicated that he hopes that the social network “will be inaccessible again” as soon as possible and that he will continue working with the Brazilian Executive so that his service will be available again “very soon” for the people of Brazil.
