Snapchat unveils its biggest update in years, with new augmented reality Spectacles

Verse, the new generative AI for Gen Z who don't like TikTok

Today took place in Los Angeles Snap Partner Summitwhere Snap’s new features for the coming months have been presented: AR glasses, Spectacles, a new interface for Snapchat, and new AI features for Lens Studio and Snap AR.

Snapchat’s interface is going to change completely, going back to the old days, when everything was simpler.

Snap has realized that Snapchat’s interface was becoming too complex. Although the main reason, as she herself confesses, is that the monetizable content was too hidden.

New Snapchat, new Spectacles

Snapchat’s new redesign is called “Simple Snapchat,” making its goal very clear. “Bring Stories closer to conversations, simplify content discovery, and bring people directly to our camera to express themselves,” perfectly sums up Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, in The Verge.

With this important update, Snapchat tabs reduced from five to three: one for messages and Stories with friends, another for the camera and another for a feed Similar to TikTok’s full-screen videos from creators and editors.

The real goal of this update in become more like TikTok when it comes to accessing videosIt will also make creators’ content more accessible, increasing their visibility.

Snap has also introduced AI improvements in Lens Studioas an animation creator, and in Snap ARlike lip-syncing to Eminem songs.

But the big news is the new augmented reality glasses, SpectaclesSnap introduced them with an unfortunate announcement that you can see in the opening video of the news, where it basically laughs at virtual reality glasses.

Snap is betting on augmented reality, which is much more limited and more casual, with simple social experiences, which is exactly what it is looking for to hook the mainstream market. But the comparison with the size of Quest is unfortunate, considering that The new Spectacles are also quite thick, and look unnatural on the face..
