Moroccan authorities arrested three suspected members of the Islamic State terrorist group on Tuesday, one of them in the town of Castillejos, located in the northern part of the country, near the border with Ceuta, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) reported.
In addition to Castillejos, arrests have taken place in the town of Fed and in the rural settlement of Uled Ghanem, in the province of El Jadida, according to the official statement reported by the MAP news agency.
The detainees, aged between 18 and 39, had already planned to commit attacks, although Rabat has not specified their possible objectives. They were allegedly preparing acts of “individual terrorism”, for which they had begun training in the manufacture of explosive devices.
Searches at the homes of the three suspects have led to the seizure of electronic equipment, knives and extremist material, including an Islamic State emblem engraved on a piece of wood. Investigators have confirmed that the suspects had sworn allegiance to the leader of the jihadist group in order to act in his name.
