Somalia announces its accession to the IAEA

September 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The office of Somalia’s prime minister announced on Monday that it has joined the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the 68th conference in Vienna, Austria, making it the 178th member country.

“Somalia proudly joins the International Atomic Energy Agency as its newest member at the 68th IAEA Conference in Vienna. A historic moment for our country, highlighting our dedication to peaceful nuclear engagement and sustainable development,” reads the statement on its social media account X.

Other non-member countries that have been approved for membership include Cape Verde, Tonga, Guinea and Saint Kitts and Nevis. North Korea withdrew in 1994 after being found to be in breach of a number of agreements.
