Houthis release images of hypersonic missile launch that hit central Israel

September 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Yemen’s Houthi rebels on Monday released images of the launch of a suspected hypersonic missile that hit northern Israel the day before despite being shot down by Israeli air defense systems.

Shrapnel from the missile, dubbed the ‘Palestine 2’ Hypersonic, fell in several areas between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The projectile did not cause any direct casualties, although nine people were slightly injured as they tried to reach shelters.

Houthi military operations spokesman Yahya Sari claimed responsibility for the attack on “the occupied Jaffa region” shortly afterwards, saying it was carried out with a hypersonic missile that travelled 2,040 kilometres in about 11 minutes.

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar on Monday congratulated Houthi leader Abdulmalik Badraddin al-Houthi for the attack and praised Yemen for being the scene of weekly support for the Palestinian cause.

For his part, Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian denied on Monday that his country had sent a hypersonic missile to the Houthis. “The missiles that the Yemenis possess are the result of their efforts and the missile used in the attack does not exist in Iran. They are capable of manufacturing their own weapons,” he stressed.
