Last Monday, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 16 line, along with several other devices that will be launched in the coming weeks.
During the launch event, Apple was talking about the benefits of the iPhone 16, but as has been the case for quite a few years, those from Cupertino do not usually share certain technical specifications such as the issue of RAM.
Looking back, it’s worth remembering that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have 6GB of RAM, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have 8GB of RAM.
Well, continuing with previous rumors, Apple has just confirmed in an interview, that all iPhone 16 models have 8GB of RAMand the main culprit has been Apple Intelligence.
It seems that Apple Intelligence requires the device to have 8GB of RAM, and that is why it is also available for the iPhone 15 pro, but not for the base models.
He confirmed it in an interview Johny SroujiApple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies, explained that Apple Intelligence is one of the reasons for the increase in RAM, but that there are other things that will benefit from it, too.
“Our goal is to build the best products and deliver the best user experience. When it comes to Apple Intelligence, DRAM is one aspect. And when we look at what we’re building, whether it’s silicon, hardware or software, we don’t want to waste resources in many ways.”
“We have a lot of data that tells us what a particular feature will enable, and Apple Intelligence is one of those very important features that we want to enable. We look at different configurations, both for compute and for bandwidth and memory capacity. And then we strike the right balance between what really makes the most sense. So Apple Intelligence was one of the key features that led us to believe that we needed to go to 8GB.”
“That said, the 8GB will be a big help in other applications like gaming, high-end gaming, AAA gaming, and high-end gaming on the device. So I think it will be very, very beneficial.”
This is the first time Apple has publicly confirmed the amount of RAM in the iPhone 16, and one of the few times they’ve talked about the topic of RAM in their devices.
