How to use Google Gemini on iOS?
Google’s commitment to artificial intelligence is clear. I recently explained how to disable AI results in the search engine. This is just one example of how this new technology is being integrated into the company’s products. In the case of Android, Google Gemini is being integrated into the system, even supporting the use of extensions. However, What about iOS users? Won’t they have quick access to this virtual assistant based on generative artificial intelligence? If you want to access Google’s chatbot, I’ll tell you two ways to do it.
Google Gemini as an app thanks to Safari
First of all, I must clarify something: iOS is a very closed system And, for that reason, it is not possible to change the default assistant. It is true that little by little Apple is opening up its system more, even if it is forced by the European Union. I already showed you the steps to install a third-party store on an iPhone, something unthinkable just a few years ago. However, unlike Android, Google Gemini is not going to replace Siri. At least for now.
I’m telling you all this because the ways to access Gemini on iOS are much more limited than on Android. While the voice assistant can be modified on the system developed by Google, you won’t be able to do the same on iOS. That’s why one of the ways to access Gemini on the iPhone (or iPad) that I suggest is through Safari.
These are the steps you must take:
- Access the Apple browser, Safari. Note! Since the idea is to add the Gemini webapp to the home screen, you need to follow these steps from this browser. It does not work if you use Chrome, Brave or Firefox on the iPhone.
- In the navigation bar, type gemini.google.com.
- Sign in with your Google account if necessary.
- When you are on the home screen, open the share menu.
- Tap on Add to home screen.
- Enter the name of the app and press Add.
While the app has its own icon and looks great on the iPhone home screen, the web app will not open in full screen like other PWA apps.
However, it is an easy way to always have Gemini at hand. Needless to say, the chatbot icon can be added to any folder, and even to the Dock.
Gemini integrated into the Google app for iOS
If you were thinking of a more integrated way to access Gemini from the iPhone, the Google app is the solution. It is not nearly as well implemented as the assistant you will find on Android, but it is a better designed way than the previous one. Of course, you will have to install the Google appif you haven’t already.
Once you have the Google app, follow these steps to access Gemini:
- Enter the app.
- Tap on the top selector where the Gemini logo appears.
- Start talking to the chatbot.
With the Google app it is much more convenient to access the following features:
- Exporting responsesGemini allows you to send generated texts to Gmail or Docs from the Google app. If you use it to create drafts in these apps, you will find this feature very useful.
- Modify the answer. You’ll be able to make it longer, more precise, more professional, and more. Overall, Gemini offers a total of five modes that alter the first text the chatbot offers.
- Create links for conversationsIf you want to share a Gemini chat with other people, you can generate a link and send it to whoever you want. Although they won’t be able to participate in the chat, they will be able to see the results of each of the requests.
- See other versionsGemini usually offers two or three versions for the same query.
All these tools are available in the context menu that appears when you click on the three vertical points which is below each answer. Additionally, if you tap on the Google icon, you will be able to check whether the data provided by the chatbot is correct or not. Contextual searches are loaded in the same app.
The Google app also offers improved microphone and camera support. Remember that you can send images to Gemini, as well as audio. True, most of these features are also available on the web. However, they work much better if you run them from the Google app, which Gemini integrates into iOS.
