US kills suspected Islamic State member planning attack in eastern Syria

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Friday that the US Army has killed in a bombing a suspected member of the terrorist group Islamic State who was preparing an attack against international forces in eastern Syria.

CENTCOM said the individual in question was “placing an improvised explosive device” when the attack that killed him took place, according to a statement in which it specified that the attack was directed at both the coalition and “associated forces.”

However, it has not given details of the exact location of the attack, which took place on Wednesday. The coalition was formed in 2014 to fight the terrorist group as it advanced in Syria and Iraq.

Islamic State was defeated territorially in both countries five years later, although the group continues to pose a serious security threat as it carries out bomb attacks.
