ISTANBUL, Aug. 18 (DPA/EP) –
The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, and the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, meet this Thursday with the Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenski, in the city of Lviv, in order to advance in the resolution of a war, who is about to turn half a year.
Erdogan’s arrival is scheduled for this Thursday. Secretary General Guterres arrived on Wednesday night. Both will talk with Zelensky about how to “end the war through diplomatic channels”, as well as the recent activation of the shipment of Ukrainian grain to world markets.
Guterres and Erdogan are partly responsible for the agreement reached at the end of July between kyiv and Moscow to unblock Ukrainian grain exports, which remained stranded in ports controlled by Russian troops.
For his part, Guterres is also expected to make an appearance this Saturday in the Swedish city of Istanbul to visit the coordination center from which all these grain exports through the Black Sea are coordinated.
