The new iPhone 16 inherits the customizable action button and makes it easier to capture photos

September 9 (Portaltic/EP) –

Apple on Monday unveiled its new family of smartphones, consisting of two standard models – iPhone 16 and 16 Plus – and two more advanced versions – Pro and Pro Max – which have inherited the customizable action button from the iPhone 16 Pro and have integrated a sliding button that allows you to choose the different options available while taking photos.

The Cupertino company held its annual event on Tuesday under the motto ‘It’s Glowtime’, where it also unveiled other new products, such as the new Apple Watch Series 10 and several headphone formats, including the new AirPods 4.

The big draw at this event was the new iPhone 16, whose standard model was presented in two sizes (the largest being the Plus version), while the more advanced iPhone 16 Pro model was accompanied by the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Firstly, the brand has commented that these devices have been designed with a new “vibrant look” that celebrates colour – the new additions are ultramarine blue, teal and pink, which join the classic black and white – and are also designed to extend their durability.

As for the screen size, it is worth mentioning that the standard model comes in two versions: the iPhone 16 has a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 16 Plus model expands to 6.7 inches of panel. They also offer between 1 nit and 2,000 nits of maximum brightness.

These devices come with an A18 chip manufactured using the 3nm process that doubles the performance of machine learning models and enables AI-powered features from Apple Intelligence to run at a higher speed. This processor also enables satellite communication and powers the most demanding video games, including Sniper Elite 4 and Assassin’s Creed: Mirage.

Apple has also made the shortcut button on the side – which comes from the iPhone 15 Pro – so that when pressed, for example, it directs to the translator or the flashlight, among other tools. It also incorporates a simpler camera control, which works simply by sliding your finger over it, without having to do the typical ‘click’.

As for the camera, they come with a 48 MP main lens, with 4 times more resolution than the one incorporated in the iPhone 14, thanks to which you can capture “the most specific details of the scenes.” Also, the telephoto lens is 12 MP, with x2 telephoto sensor and the ultra-wide angle lens is also 12 MP.

The brand has also insisted that users should have the ability to capture the moment in an “agile” manner, so it has designed a series of gestures that make taking photos easier. For example, if you double-tap the camera control you can switch from zoom control to depth of field control.

Apple has also mentioned the features of its new iPhone Pro Max and Max Pro models, which come with a 6.3-inch screen in the case of the former and 6.9-inch in the case of the latter; with thinner and stronger edges and powered by A18 Pro, manufactured with a 3nm process and 18 Neural Engine cores for AI.

These devices come with a 48MP main Fusion camera, which incorporates a sensor capable of reading information twice as fast to improve the sharpness of photos. The 12MP 2x telephoto lens and 48MP ultra-wide angle lens.

It can also be used with the so-called Camera Control, which allows you to switch between the available menus during photography without having to touch the screen or hold the device in your hand to operate these options. The brand also explained that it introduces 4K quality to record video at 120 FPS, combined with Dolby Vision technology to offer cinematic results. In addition, in slow motion it can offer up to 24 FPS.

These devices, which have four microphones, also incorporate the Spatial Audio Capture function, which allows you to capture sound and then clean it of noise and isolate some of its sources. For example, the voice when recording a song, which also does so in a realistic and clear way.

Both devices, with MagSafe charging, are made from recycled materials and come in several colors, including Black Titanium and Natural Titanium in a grayish tone, although the real novelty in the color section is Titanium in gold, which offers a lighter texture.

In terms of configuration, the brand has indicated that the Pro model can be purchased with 128 GB, 256 GB, 512 GB and 1TB of internal storage, while the Pro Max version starts at 256 GB of storage up to 1TB of total capacity.

Finally, the technology company has recalled that these devices will be based on iOS 18, which is powered by Apple Intelligence features and with “the ability to understand and create language, as well as images, working to simplify daily tasks,” in the words of Apple’s senior vice president of Software and Engineering, Craig Federighi.

In addition to commenting on some of the native features of this operating system, which was presented a few months ago at WWDC – such as its integration with Siri or image generation tools – the executive has commented that Apple Intelligence will be available in English starting in December, while next year it will have support for Chinese, French, Japanese and Spanish.
