Apple has introduced four different models of the iPhone 16. Here we are going to explain in a simple way how they differ, so that you can choose which one best suits your needs.
First of all, these are the four models:
There are two simple ways to classify them based on their surname: the Pros are the most powerful, with a better design and camera; the Plus and Max mean that they are bigger.
But let’s go section by section.
Design: The Pros are more durable and come in metallic colors
The difference in design between the iPhone 16 is in the materials used and the finishes available. If we want a bright color we will have to go to the iPhone 16 or the iPhone 16 Plus; the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have metallic finishes because they opt for a titanium design.
While the iPhone 16 comes with an aluminum design and tinted glass back, the iPhone 16 Pro has a titanium design and a textured matte glass back.
These are the finishes:
- iPhone 16 / iPhone 16 Plus: black, white, pink, teal and ultramarine blue
- iPhone 16 Pro / iPhone 16 Pro Max: black titanium, white titanium, natural titanium and desert colored titanium
Display: The Pros have fewer borders
This year, the Pro models have slightly larger screens than the standard iPhone 16 because the thickness of the edges has been reduced. This causes For the first time, we have four iPhones with four different sizes of screen. These are the sizes:
- iPhone 16: 6.1 inches
- iPhone 16 Pro: 6.3 inches
- iPhone 16 Plus: 6.7 inches
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 6.9 inches
The panel is an OLED with an equivalent resolution of 460 ppi and a maximum brightness of 2,000 nits on all models. However, The Pro panel adds 120Hz ProMotion and always-on display. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus remain at 60 Hz.
Performance and battery
With the iPhone 15, Apple decided to offer the A16 processor, while the iPhone 15 Pro had the A17 Pro chip. This year, they realized the naming problem and decided to fix it. The iPhone 16 has the new A18 and the iPhone 16 Pro has the new A18 Pro.
What’s the difference? Both are manufactured on a second-generation 3-nanometer process, but The A18 Pro has a more advanced GPU (6 cores vs. 5 cores). According to Apple, the A18 Pro is what enables ProRes video recording, better image processing, and USB 3.0 support.
As for the battery, Apple never confirms the official milliamp-hour figure. What we do have are the official battery life figures and here the Pro models are ahead. Here is the theoretical battery life for video playback of the different models:
- iPhone 16: up to 22 hours
- iPhone 16 Plus: up to 27 hours
- iPhone 16 Pro: up to 27 hours
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: up to 33 hours
There is no difference in fast charging or wireless charging.
In terms of connectivity, all new iPhone 16s offer WiFi 7, ultra-wideband, NFC and Bluetooth 5.3, although Pro models add dual-frequency GPS and LiDAR scanner.
Camera: the difference is made by the wide angle and the zoom
The camera system on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus is the same. While the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max also have the same camera.
What are the differences? Mainly in the wide angle (larger) and the telephoto lens (with dedicated sensor)Here we leave you with a comparative table of each sensor.

The processor upgrade also allows the Pro models to record up to 40 to 120fps with Dolby Vision.
One thing that all the new iPhone 16 models do add is the camera control button. The 12-megapixel front camera is also the same on all models.
As for the sound, Pro models add four microphones to record with better audio.
The price: how much does each iPhone 16 model cost?
And of course, another important difference is the price. The Pro models are clearly more expensivejust as the Plus and Max variants also increase the price by offering more screen and battery than their smaller siblings. All in all, the iPhone 16 Pro is more expensive than the iPhone 16 Plus, despite being smaller.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is not sold in 128 GB, so here is a price comparison of the 256 GB versions:
- iPhone 16: 1,089 euros
- iPhone 16 Plus: 1,239 euros
- iPhone 16 Pro: 1,349 euros
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 1,469 euros
As we can see, there is a difference of just over 100 euros between one range and the next higher one.
