Israeli Army presents US with ‘operational plans’ for Lebanon in light of clashes with Hezbollah

The Israeli army on Monday presented its “operational plans” to the United States Army regarding Lebanon, amid an upsurge in fighting with the Shiite militia-party Hezbollah in the wake of clashes sparked by the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions.

He said that the Chief of the Army General Staff, Herzi Halevi, met on Monday with the commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), Eric Kurilla, with whom he discussed the situation in the country, “with an emphasis on the northern scenario, from Lebanon to Iran.”

The Israeli army has stressed that Kurilla visited the Northern Command during the day and met with its chief, Uri Gordin, who presented “the operational plans of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in Lebanon,” amid fears of a possible expansion of the conflict in the Middle East.

“The IDF will continue to deepen its relationship with the U.S. military, based on a commitment to strengthen regional stability and coordination between the two armies,” the CENTCOM said in a statement posted on its website, although CENTCOM has not yet commented on the meeting.

Clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, which has significant military and political clout in Lebanon, have intensified in recent weeks, in the wake of the fighting that erupted after the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions, which has raised fears of the possibility of an expansion of the conflict in the Middle East.
