ECLAC promotes digital innovation in the Caribbean with new training spaces

This historic event took place from August 12 to 15, 2024 in the city of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. The initiative brought together various policymakers and regulators from 10 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, all of them committed to advancing the digital agenda in their respective nations.

During the School, topics such as cybersecurity, data management, productivity and connectivity were addressed, with a strong emphasis on how these areas can be fundamental pillars for sustainable digital transformation efforts in the Caribbean. The focus was on strengthening the capacities of the region’s main policy makers and regulators in key areas of digital transformation, marking a significant milestone for the development of this subject in the region.

The event was structured in interactive sessions with panel discussions, case studies and peer learning, led by regional experts. Participants exchanged ideas, shared best practices and collaborated on problem-solving, thus strengthening their capacities to advance the digital agenda. Special attention was also paid to the integration of SMEs in the digital economy and the development of a resilient internet infrastructure, both critical aspects to foster a robust and inclusive digital ecosystem in the region.

This first edition of the Caribbean School on Digital Transformation underlines ECLAC’s commitment to technological innovation and social inclusion, laying the groundwork for future editions that will continue to support growth and digital transformation in the Caribbean. The initiative is also part of a broader regional strategy, which includes a series of training activities for policymakers (including the Latin American School version, to be held in São Paulo), aimed at enhancing the region’s digital transformation.
