Edogan calls for unity among Muslim countries against Israeli "expansionism"

Israel warns that Erdogan’s claim is “a dangerous lie”

September 7 () –

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday called for unity among Muslim countries in the face of Israel’s “expansionism.”

“Confronting the terror of the State of Israel is an Islamic duty, a religious duty, a patriotic issue and of course a national issue for us,” Erdogan said during an event at the Congress Centre in the city of Kocaeli, according to the Turkish daily ‘Hürriyet’.

“At this critical moment, Islamic countries should wake up as soon as possible, realize the danger and increase cooperation even more,” he added. Erdogan specifically mentioned Egypt and Syria to “create a line of solidarity against the growing threat of expansionism” and referred to rapprochement with Cairo.

“The new process we have started with Egypt will benefit Gaza and Palestine (…). We will continue to increase the number of friends in the region, whatever the evil ones say,” he stressed. “We will take every step with determination to expand Turkey’s scope for foreign policy,” he argued.

According to Erdogan, “all Islamic countries should also adopt a common stance against the Israeli occupation.” “The only thing that can stop the arrogance, banditry and terrorism of the State of Israel is the alliance of Islamic countries,” he stressed. The Turkish president stressed that “we have been making this call from the beginning.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has responded to Erdogan saying that Erdogan is “the real threat” to his own people and the entire region. “Erdogan continues to throw the Turkish people into the fire of hatred and violence for his friends in Hamas,” Katz posted on social media X.

Katza said that Erdogan had accused Israel of “wanting to conquer the countries of the region, including Turkey” and warned that this was “a dangerous lie” to “provoke.” “Israel is defending its borders and its citizens from the murderers and rapists of Hamas and the Shiite axis of evil led by Iran,” he said.

“Erdogan and the Muslim Brotherhood have been working together with Iran against moderate Arab regimes in the Middle East for years. Erdogan should be silent and ashamed,” he added.
