US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has congratulated Ukraine’s new foreign minister, Andri Sibiga, and reiterated the “enduring strength” of bilateral ties, amid Washington’s support for kyiv in the face of Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
Blinken told Sibiga that this bilateral partnership is palpable through “military, economic, and humanitarian support” to “sustain Ukraine’s fight against Russian aggression and accelerate the recovery of the Ukrainian economy,” according to a statement published by the State Department.
Sibiga was elected as the new foreign minister on Thursday after parliament accepted the resignation of Dmitry Kuleba, as part of a new government reshuffle by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Kuleba had been in office since March 2020, making him one of the most recognizable faces in Ukrainian politics in the wake of the invasion. He was one of the main promoters of kyiv’s efforts to expand its support and push for agreements that would allow Kiev to confront Moscow’s military offensive.
