US activist shot dead by Israeli soldiers at protest against West Bank settlements

September 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Israeli security forces shot dead an American activist on Friday as she took part in a protest against Israeli settlement expansion around the southern West Bank city of Nablus, Palestinian medical sources said.

The director of the Rafidia Hospital in Nablus, Fuad Nafaa, said the woman was Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a 26-year-old of Turkish descent. He said the young woman arrived at the hospital after being shot in the head and confirmed her death shortly after admission.

Local sources cited by the Palestinian news agency WAFA have reported that the activist was shot during a demonstration in Beita and added that a Palestinian was wounded after being hit by a bullet in the leg.

They also stressed that Israeli forces also used stun grenades and tear gas to try to disperse those present, but neither the Israeli army nor the authorities have yet commented on what happened.
