The arrest of Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, has caused a stir. The messaging platform has also become a kind of deep web in itself, and we are now beginning to see the first consequences of these events.
Where I said I sayTelegram has edited its FAQ page in English. In the section “There is illegal content on Telegram. How can I remove it?” the phrase “All Telegram chats and groups are the private territory of their respective participants and we do not process requests related to them” has disappeared. still present in the FAQ in Spanish. This seems to imply that from now on Telegram will moderate those normal conversations between users and in groups.
But. As several Twitter users have indicatedactually those missing phrases from that section of the English FAQ appear in other sections. Specifically, the missing phrase appears in this other questionand there is also a section which explains whether or not Telegram processes requests to remove content.
Conclusion: everything is confusingThe wording of the FAQ makes it unclear at the moment what to expect. The disappearance of that sentence from the first question has made it seem plausible that Telegram will act when it did not before. However, the other two sections repeat what the FAQ already indicated before. It is not clear whether Telegram will moderate these normal chats or not.

Meanwhile, what remains is that secret chats – truly private due to the use of E2E encryption – will continue to guarantee maximum security due to this encryption between clients, and not client-server / server-clientIn normal chats and group chats, E2E encryption is not activated because, as the company indicated years ago, this prevents your conversations from raising suspicions.
Durov makes his first statementsUntil now Durov had not publicly commented on the arrest, but a few hours ago he published a post on Telegram —of which he has warned also on Twitter— in which he explains that “I am still trying to understand what has happened in France. But I have heard the complaints. I have made it my personal goal to prevent those who abuse the Telegram platform from interfering in the future of our more than 950 million users.”
Telegram is not an “anarchic paradise”Durov said in the post that “the claims by some media outlets that Telegram is a kind of lawless paradise are absolutely false. We delete millions of harmful messages and channels every day.”
