Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday gave his new cabinet until the end of the year to present “specific results” on issues such as foreign funding for the national arms industry or accession to the European Union (EU).
“It is very important that the government institutions work as actively as possible now, even more than before,” Zelensky said in a message on his social networks, in which he thanked Parliament for its support for the new members of the team, among whom stands out Andri Sibiha, the new foreign minister.
Zelensky has stressed the need to move forward more actively in the negotiation process with the European Union in order to prepare an accession agreement for the future, as well as in more investments to grow the defense industry, amid a war with Russia that has already lasted more than two and a half years.
He also stressed the need to achieve greater understanding between central and regional authorities, as well as to provide more support to communities on the front lines. “This applies to the supply of arms and the protection of the energy industry,” he said.
Zelensky has called for a new policy to protect war veterans and has outlined other priorities such as carrying out a determined campaign abroad to combat “Russian propaganda” and strengthen Ukraine’s image.
Finally, the Council has set out the need to ensure Ukraine’s financial stability by, among other things, reclaiming frozen Russian funds and assets to compensate for the damage caused by the war.
This new government reshuffle takes place at one of the worst moments of the conflict so far this year, with Russian forces resuming their offensive on energy facilities on the eve of winter and in the midst of the incursion launched in August by Ukrainian troops in the Russian region of Kursk.
