After 60 years of searching, NASA discovered a mysterious electric field on Earth

Using a NASA suborbital rocket, experts have successfully measured a planetary electric field, which is as important as its magnetic and gravitational fields.

(Read: What is it really? NASA detects object 27 thousand times larger than Earth).

This is about the “ambipolar electric field”responsible for our planet’s atmosphere being able to escape over the Earth’s north and south poles.

The hypothesis of its existence arose more than 60 years ago, when scientists first raised the possibility of measuring it.

(See: NASA breaks record by receiving a video 31 million kilometers from Earth).

Now, measurements from NASA’s Endurance rocket have confirmed that this field exists, and even quantified its strength.

Likewise, they managed to identify that the “ambipolar electric field” serves as an atmospheric escape.

This discovery will help us understand the complex movements and evolution of our planet’s atmosphere and provide clues not only about the history of Earth, but also about other planets to determine which ones could be suitable for life.

The discovery of Endurance has opened up many new avenues for exploration. The ambipolar field, as our planet’s fundamental energy field along with gravity and magnetism, may have continually shaped the evolution of our atmosphere in ways we can now begin to explore.Because it is created by the internal dynamics of an atmosphere, similar electric fields are expected to exist on other planets, including Venus and Mars..
