Bluesky reaches "historical highs in activity" and adds one million new users in three days

The microblogging platform Bluesky has announced that it has reached “historical highs in activity”, with one million new users registered in three days, an increase that responds to the ban of X (formerly Twitter) in Brazil.

Bluesky was launched in 2019 by the then CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, who said he would fund the work of an independent team to develop an “open and decentralized” standard for social networks.

In May of this year, Dorsey acknowledged that he had stepped down from Bluesky’s board of directors because it was “literally repeating all the mistakes” made by the platform now known as X.

Despite this, some users in Brazil have opted for this social network as an alternative to the ban on the app owned by Elon Musk, which stopped working in this country on Saturday after the app was blocked by the Brazilian courts in retaliation for not assigning a legal representative in the country.

The Supreme Court judge in charge of the case, Alexandre de Moraes, said he had made this decision because “repeated, conscious and voluntary non-compliance “court orders and fines imposed” on the company, among other causes.

Due to this measure, Brazilian users have migrated to other platforms such as Bluesky, considered the direct competition of X, which has recently announced that it has reached “historical highs in activity“, as the firm shared on its profile.

While it first stated that it had registered “more than 500,000 new users” on August 30 and 31, at the close of last Saturday the platform welcomed “one million new users in the last three days“.

The increase in activity on the social network has led to various incidents in its service, as explained by developer Paul Frazee on his profile, where he reported a “problem with the server performance”, that they are investigating.

Frazee, however, had already pointed out in previous posts the possibility that Bluesky’s operation could be affected due to this increase in activity, which has resulted in the increase in ‘invalid identifiers’.

Bluesky CEO Jay Graber said that the platform she develops is now ranked first among the most downloaded free iPhone apps, surpassing Threads. “Good job Brazil, you made the right decision,” has added.
