The most downloaded video game apps
The 5 most downloaded game apps in the world are Subway Surfers, FreeFire, Roblox, Ludo King and Candy Crush Saga.
In Mexico, FreeFire, Roblox, Subway Surfers, Stubble Guys and My Perfect Hotel stand out.
Among these games, Roblox is crowned the global gaming app with the highest number of unique users and maintains its reign in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Australia, Indonesia, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates, according to Data.ai.
In Mexico, gamers downloaded 2.44 billion video game apps and spent $410 million in 2023, according to Data.ai’s State of Mobile 2024 report. These figures consolidate the country as one of the most important emerging markets in the mobile gaming industry.
User retention challenges
Despite success in downloads, gaming apps face a significant challenge in user retention. According to AppsFlyer’s 2024 App Uninstall Report, mobile games have a 52% uninstall rate in the first 30 days, making them the second most removed category after dating apps.
A publicity machine
“Gaming apps have created a market that thrives on their adaptability to generate revenue,” said Adam Smart, Product Manager for Gaming at AppsFlyer. “For marketers looking to capitalize on today’s market, the key is not to focus all of their resources on one strategy.”
An interesting fact from the report is that more than 70% of users who make a purchase in a gaming app tend to repeat it. Among the small group of less than 5% who make purchases, these transactions occur mainly in the first 10 days after installation.
