Federal Reserve Bank of Boston President Susan Collins said Thursday that it would soon be appropriate to begin a rate-cutting cycle, signaling her likely support for a move at the bank’s September policy meeting.
“We’ve seen quite a bit of inflation come down. To me, the come down is consistent with increased confidence that we’re on that trajectory and with labor markets generally healthy, I think it will be appropriate to start easing rates soon,” Collins said in an interview with Fox Business.
“I think a gradual and methodical pace is likely to be appropriate once we are in a different monetary position,” Collins added, while indicating that preserving the health of the labor market is a priority.
