Italy presents its minister Raffaele Fitto as a candidate for European commissioner

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced on Friday the nomination of her Minister for European Affairs, Southern Policies and Cohesion, Raffaele Fitto, as European Commissioner.

“We have chosen a person who has great experience and who has been able to manage the delegations entrusted to him in this government with excellent results: Minister Raffaele Fitto,” Meloni announced on Friday.

Meloni praised the work carried out by Fitto, whose nomination was “a decision as painful as it was necessary”, as it is a “delicate and very important issue for us and for Italy in the coming years”.

“I ask for a round of applause and good luck to Raffaele, who will have an extremely complex and equally exciting task ahead of him,” Meloni added.
