Iranian authorities charge an Iranian filmmaker and her daughter for not wearing a veil in public

Aug. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Iranian authorities on Wednesday charged Iranian filmmaker Rakhshan Banietemad and her daughter, actress Baran Kosari, with violating the dress code by appearing in public without a veil during a film screening in the country.

“The Tehran prosecutor has charged filmmaker Rakhshan Banietemad and her daughter, actress Baran Kosari, after they removed their hijabs in public,” the Mizan Online news portal, which is linked to the country’s judicial apparatus, reported.

The Iranian judiciary has already summoned Kosari to explain her support for the anti-government protests that erupted following the death of Kurdish young woman Mahsa Amini after she was arrested for allegedly wearing her headscarf incorrectly. The actress was the subject of an investigation after attending the funeral of actor Hesam Mahmudi with her hair uncovered.

Her mother, Banietemad, also supported the protests by uploading videos on social media and is one of the most acclaimed film directors in Iran, having already received numerous awards at the prestigious Fajr International Film Festival.
