Teófilo Serrano, former president of Renfe, senator and general secretary of the Madrid Socialists, died this Saturday at the age of 74 in the Navarrese town of Tudela.
“Teófilo Serrano has left us. A colleague who was general secretary of the Madrid socialists,” the Madrid PSOE reported in a message on the social network ‘X’.
The PSOE also referred to him as an “engineer and civil servant who was always at the service of the State”, while conveying its “love and affection to his family and friends at this time”.
For his part, the general secretary of the PSOE in Madrid, Juan Lobato, has stressed that “there are socialists who never stop being socialists.” “Teófilo Serrano, who was general secretary of the Madrid socialists, is one of them,” he said in his ‘X’ profile, where he also pointed out that it was an honour for him “to have received his advice and support over the years.”
Serrano was president of Renfe from 2009, during the time of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, until the end of 2011, when Mariano Rajoy became president of the Spanish government. Previously, he was Secretary of State for Public Administration in the governments of Felipe González.
