Israel acknowledges shelling of facility, which it describes as a Hamas command center

At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured on Saturday in a series of Israeli bombings on a school in Gaza City, Palestinian medical sources told the Palestinian newspaper ‘Filastin’.

These attacks took place in particular at the Hamama School in the Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood in the west of the city, according to these sources, who identify the school as a place of refuge for displaced people.

The building was completely destroyed in a second wave of bombings, killing more people, including women and children, according to the pan-Arab television station Al Jazeera. It said rescue teams were working at the site when the second attack occurred.

“We have received several dead and wounded, including children, as a result of the Israeli bombardment of the Hamama School,” said a medical official at the Baptist Hospital in Gaza City, as quoted by ‘Filastin’.

Israel confirmed in a military statement that its fighter jets had struck the school, which it described as “a Hamas command and control centre” used by the Palestinian movement’s militias “to plan and carry out attacks against Israeli troops in the Strip.”

After saying that the attack was carried out with “precision” to minimise civilian casualties, Israel has again accused Hamas of “using the population of Gaza as human shields for its terrorist activities”.
