Emmanuel Macron and Georgia Meloni They spoke on Friday about the situation in the Middle East and Venezuela during a conversation held on the sidelines of an Olympic Games event in Paris.
The French president and the head of the Italian government did so while attending a horse riding competition testwhich is taking place in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, the Elysée reported.
“They discussed major bilateral, European and international issues, especially the situation in the Middle East and the latest political developments in Venezuela,” he added.
The French Foreign Ministry on Friday called on French people passing through Iran or who have been invited that leave that country as soon as possible “due to the heightened risk of military escalation in the region.”
In recent days he has also launched warning messages for the French Do not travel to Lebanon, Israel or the Palestinian territoriesunless they have “compelling reasons.”
Behind these messages is the deterioration of the geopolitical situation, and in particular the risk of escalationwhich has intensified following the assassination in Tehran of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh last Wednesday and attributed to Israel, which could lead to an Iranian response.
As for Venezuela, France has not recognised any winner in last Sunday’s presidential elections and has requested “total transparency” in the disclosure of detailed data on the minutes and voting centres.
The French government has also called for respect for the “freedom of expression and demonstration” of the population.
