Aug. 1 () –

The Croatian government has named the current vice-president of the European Commission, Croatian Dubravka Suica, as its candidate to occupy a seat in the future Community Executive that will be chaired again by Ursula von der Leyen.

This was confirmed by Suica herself on her social media, where she expressed her gratitude to the Government of Croatia for choosing her as a candidate to once again form part of the European Commission in Von der Leyen’s second term.

“I will remain dedicated to the unity of the European Union, the prosperity and well-being of all EU citizens. I look forward to the hearing and the next chapter,” added Suica, who thanked Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

Suica, a former mayor of Dubrovnik, joined the European Parliament in 2013. She was chosen by Von der Leyen as the number two on the European Commission in 2019. In 2022, she was appointed as one of the vice-presidents of the European People’s Party (EPP).
