Public service receipts: how to register your email to receive the digital invoice

From August 1st The way in which Colombians receive their utility bills will be adjusted. A change aimed not only at optimizing administrative processes, but also at progressively reducing the use of paper.

In this way, we seek to comply with the Resolution 165 of 2023 and 008 of 2024which establishes the generation and transmission of receipts in digital format. The measure, promoted by the Dian, will be carried out progressively until November 1 and includes 11 documents that must undergo this migration.

In the case of public services, the companies that will be part of the initiative include: Vanti, EPM, Bogotá Aqueduct, Enel Colombia, among others. Service providers will be required to issue a receipt to their users verifying electronic payment for the invoice.

To do this, they will have to develop and offer people options that allow them to access this new form of billing, even if due to their location or income level they do not yet have access to electronic means.

Where will these bills go?

Please note that this determination will apply to essential services such as water, electricity, gas and telecommunications. In this regard, The electronic equivalent document will arrive in the user’s email.

In the case of Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), the company has explained that as of August 1, the customer will receive two files in their email: a compressed folder (ZIP), with the billing information and a PDF (graphic representation). In case the user does not have an email, EPM will continue to deliver the receipt in physical format.

“EPM will bill public services through an electronic equivalent document (commonly known as a community invoice), which will not imply changes in the current means of delivery of this document. That is, people will continue to receive their physical invoice at home, by email or on their WhatsApp, depending on the option that each person has established,” the entity explained.

How to register your email

You can register online on the website of the service providers to receive the invoice virtually. To keep track of this document, add the sender to the safe email list, to prevent these from being marked as ‘spam’.
