Jul 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tribal clashes in several areas of Kurram district in northwestern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province over the past week have so far left 49 people dead and 200 injured.
The authorities, who have urged the warring parties to end the violence as soon as possible, have pointed out that the fighting between armed men from the Boshehra and Maleejel tribes began on July 24 in a similar way to a year ago, when a spiral of violence also broke out in the area that left 25 dead.
The region has a long history of sectarian violence, which is exacerbated by the struggle for control of land. The warring parties even use mortar and rocket fire, according to reports collected by local media.
However, the warring parties reached a ceasefire agreement on Monday, despite the fact that the situation in the area remains tense, although the authorities do not rule out new disputes in the near future.
