Egypt warns of "dangers" of conflict in Lebanon and calls for avoiding "ravages of war"

Jul 29. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry warned on Sunday of the “dangers” of the conflict spreading to Lebanon and called for avoiding “the ravages of war” at a time of great tension over a possible Israeli invasion against the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah in retaliation for this weekend’s attack on the Druze town of Majdal Shams, located in the Golan Heights, in which twelve Israelis were killed, most of them minors.

“(Egypt) warns of the dangers of opening a new front in Lebanon (…) which could lead the region into a full-scale war. Egypt stresses the importance of supporting Lebanon, its people and its institutions, and of avoiding the ravages of war,” reads a statement from the ministry posted on its Facebook account.

He then asked “influential international actors” to intervene “immediately” to avoid the “catastrophic consequences” that the regional population would experience if the war spread.

In this regard, he also recalled the “dangers of Israel continuing its war in the Gaza Strip” and again called for a ceasefire with the aim of “putting an end to human suffering as soon as possible” and to “contain the negative repercussions” of the conflict at a regional level.
