Argentine President Javier Milei has condemned the attacks that left at least twelve dead in Majdal Shams on Saturday and has spoken out in favour of Israel’s right to defend itself against such attacks.
“These are acts of hatred towards humanity that Israel fights against every day, and which the Argentine Republic repudiates and condemns in the strongest possible way,” the Office of the President said in a statement shared on the social network X.
In the same note, the Argentine Executive has conveyed its support to the State of Israel and has backed “the actions that it must take to defend itself from these attacks” on the basis of “Western values and respect for life and liberty” that unite both countries, according to Milei.
“There is only good and evil, and it is these acts of cruelty that demonstrate who is without a shadow of a doubt on the side of evil,” said the president, who recalled that attacks like this led the Argentine authorities to declare Hezbollah and Hamas as terrorist organizations in 2019 and 2024 respectively.
The statement came after at least 12 Israelis were killed and more than a dozen injured by a projectile fired from Lebanon that landed on Saturday afternoon on a football field in the Druze town of Majdal Shams, in the Syrian Golan Heights occupied by Israel, according to the latest military report.
The dead include children and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 20, according to the Israeli Red Star of David (Magen David Adom). Six of them are in serious condition, three with a moderate prognosis, four with mild ones and several others are being treated for anxiety. The injured have been taken to medical centres in Magen David Adom ambulances and military helicopters.
The Golan Heights is a territory that Israel captured from Syria during the Six-Day War (1967) and the Yom Kippur War (1973) and which it effectively annexed in 1981, in a move not recognized by the international community.
