Iran says it does not expect or want a war with Israel after attacks from Lebanon on Majdal Shams

Jul 28. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Iran’s ambassador in Beirut, Mojtaba Amani, said on Saturday that his government “does not expect” and “does not want to wage war” with Israel, although he described the Jewish state’s reaction to the attack launched from Lebanese territory that ended with twelve deaths in the Golan Heights on the same afternoon as a “game”.

“We do not expect to wage war and we believe that the chances of war are very low due to the prevailing balance of power,” the Iranian representative said in response to threats of an expansion of the conflict following the increase in hostilities between the Israeli army and the Shiite militia party Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran.

In a post on his social media account X, Amani said that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not want war, arguing that his government “always seeks to reduce tensions in the region.”

Despite these statements, the diplomat added that the regime of the ayatollahs “is not afraid of war”: “Our enemies can imagine what we can do with the strength, capacity and defense that we have.”

Amani accused Israel of “creating a play” in reference to the position of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, which has accused the Lebanese Islamist group of being responsible for the explosion in the Druze town of Majdal Shams, located in the Golan Heights.

Israel captured this territory from Syria during the Six-Day War (1967) and the Yom Kippur War (1973) and effectively annexed it in 1981, in a move not recognized by the international community.
