WhatsApp adds augmented reality effects and filters to video calls

From now on, your video calls through WhatsApp will be much more fun, and that’s because the engineers of the instant messaging application have added a series of augmented reality effects and filters that you will love.

At the moment they are only present in the latest beta version of Android, specifically in v2.24.16.6, which is accessible to those users subscribed to the beta program, but which could be available in a stable version very soon.

Thanks to these augmented reality features, video calls will be much more fun and customizable by users. Video call participants will be able to apply different filters and dynamic effects during these calls, effects for the environment, but also for the face.

Some of the effects that have been leaked are a retouching tool that smoothes the skin, and helps you look better during a video call.

There is also a kind of low light mode that offers more light to the environment to make it look much brighter.

With this beta update to WhatsApp, a new editing tool has also been found, but it focuses on backgrounds during group calls.

As this is a fairly significant addition, it will likely be a while before we see it in a stable release, and we’ll see if it will be available before the end of this year.

The fact that we can customize these video calls, even slightly changing our appearance, will make users want to try out these new features.
