If Apple is famous for something, it is for having a fast, effective, closed and clean operating system. For all this, it is possible that today’s news does not end up being funny, since changes are coming… for the worse.
Just yesterday we brought you the reasons why, in the middle of August, it is not the best time to buy an iPhone. The justification, as you could see, had no cracks.
Well, while we patiently wait for the iPhone 14 to appear, a new report suggests that some significant software changes could be coming to iPhones and iPads: specifically, more advertising in Apple’s own applications.
The information comes via trustworthy journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who says that Apple is willing to expand its integrated advertising efforts. Remember that there are already ads in the News and Stocks apps, as well as in the App Store.
According to Gurman, These applications could be joined by Apple Maps, as well as the Apple Podcasts and Apple Books applications. We could also see an expansion in the content of Apple TV Plus.
The reason for the increase in ads is obvious: Apple wants to make more money from them. Ads that already exist within iOS, iPadOS, and Apple apps currently bring in about $4 billion each year, according to the Bloomberg report.
Local businesses could pay to appear within Maps, for example, while publishers could pay to have their titles appear more prominently. In keeping with the existing announcements, they would not be open to everyone.
It is not clear when the change will start to happen, but it seems unlikely that it will be this year. It would require some significant changes on the software side, and iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 are about to be released.
What began as a trend for Chinese mobiles, in order to compensate for their low sales prices, has ended up becoming a method used by all players to improve their profits. Is it ethical to charge phones at more than 1,000 euros and still sneak advertising?
