Bulgaria’s National Security Agency (DANS) said on Friday that three Bulgarians have been arrested on suspicion of vandalizing a mural commemorating the Holocaust in Paris, the capital of France.
“On 25 July 2024, during a joint action by DANS and the Ministry of the Interior, two Bulgarian citizens were arrested on Bulgarian territory who were part of a group of people suspected of vandalising the Holocaust memorial in Paris, France, on 14 May 2024,” the statement said.
Another Bulgarian citizen has been arrested on the territory of a member state of the European Union, although no further details have been given. The Bulgarian National Security Agency has also explained that the suspects have links with groups of “extreme right-wing ideology”.
The case dates back to a European arrest warrant issued on July 19 by the French authorities for “participation in an organised criminal group, destruction and damage to foreign property” “based on ethnic, racial and other motivations”.
