Jul 26. (EUROPA PRESS) –

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin on Thursday highlighted the “record pace” at which Washington has delivered weapons to Israel since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, triggered by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) attacks on October 7, which left 1,200 dead and 240 hostages.

“In terms of the speed of delivery of security assistance to Israel, we have provided security assistance to Israel at a record pace, and we have done so from the beginning. We are able to do this because we have learned many lessons from our efforts to provide security assistance to Ukraine,” Austin said during a press conference.

The comments came after being asked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress, in which he called for a faster delivery of weapons to end the conflict sooner, although the Pentagon chief refused to comment on the Israeli leader’s speech.

“A couple of days after the attacks, we began providing security assistance at the airfield to our Israeli allies. We have maintained that throughout. And again, we will continue to do so. We will continue to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself,” he added.

The Israeli army launched an offensive on the Gaza Strip following attacks by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions on October 7, which left 1,200 people dead and 240 hostages. Since then, Gazan authorities have reported the deaths of 39,200 Palestinians, with another 550 in the West Bank and East Jerusalem as a result of actions by Israeli security forces and settlers.
