Biden tells Netanyahu of the need to "overcome outstanding differences" with Hamas to reach an agreement

Jul 26. (EUROPA PRESS) –

US President Joe Biden has expressed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the need to “overcome outstanding differences” with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in order to reach a ceasefire agreement that would allow the release of hostages and an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

During the meeting at the White House, Biden also spoke about the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian enclave, where Israeli authorities must “remove any obstacles” to the flow of humanitarian aid, restore basic services and reduce harm to civilians, according to a statement from the Oval Office.

After that, they continued to discuss the progress of the negotiations and the US president reaffirmed his support for Israel’s security against “Iran and its associated militias,” which included Hamas, the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah and the Houthi rebels of Yemen.

The two leaders also met with several relatives of American citizens kidnapped in the Strip, including the Siegel, Alexander, Dekel-Chen, Naftali, Neutra, Goldberg-Polin and Chen families.

After Netanyahu’s family members asked him why he was delaying negotiations, the Israeli leader explained that he was not delaying and that he would send an “updated proposal” to Hamas in a few days, three sources present at the meeting told the American news portal Axios.
