The German government has proposed on Wednesday that the next elections for the lower house of parliament be held on September 28, 2025, a date that has yet to be ratified by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The government said in a statement published on its website that “a new Bundestag will be elected next year” and specified that “the federal cabinet has decided that 28 September 2025 will be the proposed date for the elections.”
“However, this is only a recommendation. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will set the final date,” he stressed, adding that the date was agreed after “discussions with the federal states and parliamentary groups.”
