Hamas and Islamic Jihad criticise Netanyahu's "lies" in his speech to the US Congress

Jul 25. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Islamic Jihad have criticized this Wednesday the “lies” of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, during his speech before the United States Congress, where he criticized the “brutal” attacks of October 7 and denied that the Israeli Army is “genocidal” and a “war criminal.”

“It would have been better to arrest Netanyahu as a war criminal rather than give him the opportunity to polish his image in the world and cover up his crimes in the Gaza Strip. While Netanyahu is leading a brutal war against our Palestinian people in Gaza, the US Congress is receiving his speech full of lies and deceit,” Hamas said in a statement shared by the Palestinian daily ‘Filastin’, which is close to the group.

In this regard, he criticized his attempts to “play with the emotions” of congressmen and to “distort the facts about October 7” while “ignoring the massacres committed against civilians” with the aim of “covering up” his crisis at the international, military and security level.

“Human rights and international reports have confirmed that Netanyahu and his army have committed mass murder and ethnic cleansing in Gaza, that they have used the weapon of starvation and that they have prevented the arrival of aid,” he added.

The Islamist group also sought to contradict Netanyahu’s comments on the release of the hostages, saying that he had been among those who had “made the least effort” to achieve a ceasefire agreement.

Hamas then lashed out at the United States for supporting the “occupation” and “violations” in Gaza, making it “responsible” for them. It also said that Netanyahu’s plans for the future of the enclave are “illusions” and that only the Palestinians will have the power to decide on the matter.

Islamic Jihad, for its part, has warned that the Israeli president’s speech is intended to go against international organizations that oppose the war in Gaza and that he only seeks to gain new support in the international community.

He also said that his words confirm that he intends to “perpetuate the occupation” and “blow up the region” in order to drag the United States into a war in the Middle East.
