Israeli authorities arrested five Palestinians during an operation in the West Bank town of Tulkarem on Wednesday, including two suspected of carrying out a bomb attack last week near a settlement that left four Israelis injured.
Israeli police said in a statement posted on their social media account X that the two people arrested for their alleged involvement in the attack are residents of the town of Kafar Tsida, located near the settlement.
“His arrest came following information received by the Shin Bet, the internal security service, following investigations into Maamar Ofi, a Tulkarem resident recently arrested in Qalqilia for his alleged involvement in the attack,” it said.
He also said that three other “terrorists” were arrested in the context of the operation, which led to clashes in which several people threw explosive devices. One of the detainees was injured after being shot by Israeli forces.
Israeli army operations in the West Bank have been intensified following the attacks on October 7, which left around 1,200 dead and nearly 240 kidnapped, according to Israeli authorities. Since then, around 590 Palestinians have been killed in the area, also due to attacks by Israeli settlers, adding to the nearly 39,100 deaths in the Gaza Strip due to the military offensive against the Gaza Strip.
