Israel bombs Hezbollah targets in Lebanon after rocket attack leaves Israeli soldier wounded

The Israeli army claims to have intercepted two drones launched “from the east”, allegedly by Iraqi militias

The Israeli army on Wednesday carried out new airstrikes against alleged targets of the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, hours after a soldier was seriously injured in a rocket attack on Israeli territory.

“During the night, fighter jets attacked a Hezbollah military structure in Shekhin from which shots were fired at the country yesterday,” he said, shortly after confirming that a soldier was injured by the missile impact on Mount Dov.

Hezbollah also said it had carried out bombings against “a warehouse” in Kafarhamam. “During the attack, secondary explosions were detected, indicating the presence of many weapons in the warehouse,” he said, although Hezbollah has not yet commented on these events.

Tensions have been on the rise in recent weeks, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently warning that the Israeli army is “prepared for a very powerful action” on the border with Lebanon. Meanwhile, the leader of the Lebanese group, Hassan Nasrallah, has assured that if Hamas and Israel reach a ceasefire in Gaza, the group will end its attacks “without conditions.”

The Israeli army has also claimed to have intercepted two drones heading towards the country “from the east”, in apparent reference to the fact that the attack was carried out by pro-Iranian militias based in Iraq, in the context of the conflict unleashed after the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions.

“During the night, fighter jets successfully intercepted two unmanned aerial vehicles heading into the country from the east,” the Israeli army said. “The aircraft did not actually enter the country,” it added.
