Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milojko Spajic has reformed his government to make it the largest in the country’s history, with 26 ministries and seven vice-presidents, positions in which pro-Serb and pro-Bosnian politicians will be represented. Changes that were approved by a majority in Parliament in a session that was not attended by opposition MPs, who criticise the inclusion of such parties in the cabinet.
This move will allow the coalition led by the centrist, pro-Serb, pro-EU Europe Now! party to increase its majority from 46 to 53 MPs, who are precisely the number who voted (out of a total of 81), according to the news portal Cafe del Montenegro (CDM).
Following the reform, the pro-Russian New Serbian Democracy (NSD) party will be given four portfolios, while the Bosnian Party (BS), which was previously in opposition, will receive five ministries. The Alliance for the Future of Montenegro (ZBCG) will also be represented in the government coalition.
Europe Now! won the parliamentary elections held in June 2023, but it was not until October that Spajic managed to create a coalition after a series of intense negotiations after failing to obtain an absolute majority.
