NASA's Juno spacecraft captures the "colorful and chaotic" clouds of Jupiter

Spaceship NASA’s Juno has captured during its 61st close flyby of Jupiter a detailed view of the “chaotic” clouds and cyclonic storms in an area known to experts as a folded filamentous region.

According to the American agency’s website, at the time the raw image was taken, the Juno spacecraft was about 18,000 miles (29,000 kilometers) above Jupiter’s cloud tops, at a latitude of about 68 degrees north of the equator.

In the folded filamentous regions, The zonal jets that create the familiar banding patterns in Jupiter’s clouds break downresulting in turbulent patterns and rapidly evolving cloud structures over the course of just a few days.
