Junts announces its vote against the deficit targets and will reject the path proposed by the Government

Jul 23. () –

The deputy spokesperson for Junts in Congress, Josep Maria Cruset, has announced his vote against the objectives of budgetary stability and public debt for all administrations, which will overturn the path proposed by the Government and complicate the processing of the 2025 General State Budget in a timely manner.

“Today we will vote against this first step of the General State Budget, which is aimed at budgetary stability,” Cruset said in a statement to the press while the debate is taking place in the Lower House.

He explained that his party was calling for the autonomous communities to be given a one-tenth larger deficit in these budget stability objectives, so that they would have more capacity and more economic resources.

“But there has been absolutely no change,” lamented the deputy spokesperson for Junts, after criticising the Government’s failure to understand that it does not have an absolute majority in the House, and that, therefore, it needs other political groups, in this case the 7 votes of Junts, to push forward its initiatives.

“It is clear that as long as this reality does not change, which has exposed us to this deficit in budget execution that is so damaging to Catalonia, the Government cannot count on the seven votes of JuntsxCat for the processing of the General State Budget for the year 2025,” said Cruset.

The spokesman pointed out that during this legislature they have warned on several occasions that the party is not part of any block in the hemicycle and that, therefore, its vote in favour or against the initiatives that are promoted cannot be taken for granted depending on who is carrying them out.

“We have also explained in the various interventions that these are framed within only one criterion, which is that those proposals that are in favour of Catalonia will have our support and those that are not, our involvement cannot be taken for granted,” he stressed.

Junts is protesting against the low budget execution for the 2023 financial year in Catalonia, where only “45% of what was planned has been executed.” “This means, in practice, that the citizens of Catalonia receive 130 euros each from the General State Budget in 2023. The citizens of Madrid have received 372, those of Castilla y León 396 and those of Murcia 643, for example,” Cruset pointed out.
